Attending an RtSE Casting Call / Audition

November 29, 2010 at 12:46 PM

1. Arrive at least 15 minutes early.

2. Do not dress in costume unless requested, but dress to impress in attire that suggests the role for which you are auditioning.

3. Sign in immediately to secure your place in line.

4. Pick up the "sides". RtSE will send sides in advance or have them on our website. This is done to assist you with being able to  practice.

5. Be quiet in the waiting room. Be polite & treat the casting director's assistants politely; they will mention any rudeness to the casting director.

6. Bring a hardcover photo and resume [Make sure you still look like the photo you turn in]

7. Walk with confidence and introduce yourself when you're called in to the room with the casting director. Hand the assistant your headshot with your resume stapled on the back.

8. Don't come in saying you want to audition for 2 or 3 roles, pick one and make it your best.**Usually if I think your a better fit for another character then I will ask you to read new sides and come back.

9. Name the audition piece you will perform, and go right into it unless otherwise instructed. Do not dawdle or hesitate in any way.

10. Leave the room immediately when you are finished.

Brian, something I’m sure you know but I lenared from hearing another director talk about casting is that it’s frustratingly easy to lose a part even though you did marvelously at the audition for reasons you can’t control…They talked about how they wanted to cast this one woman who blew them away, but she had to look like the protagonist’s mother… and the lead they cast looked far too different for it to be plausible, so they had to go with someone else who wasn’t as strong of an actress, but looked the part more convincingly. It’s all about compromises I suppose. But hey, I’d cast you in anything I make… and I usually do, for good reason.
