Roman ~

Roman is a high school student, who participates in football, wrestling, track & field, and the Alpine Sports Club.  He won the starting running back position for the Varsity football team during the 2010 football season.  He became the leading rusher with 1,544 yards and 20 touchdowns.  As a result of his efforts during the season, he is a 2010 Keystone Club Athlete, won 1st team offense for section 3 in the Lancaster-Lebanon League, is ranked #4 for running backs in the entire league, ranked #2 in his section, and was voted as rookie of the year from his area Newspaper. 

 

Outside of school, Roman participates in the Young Marines.  It is a volunteer organization which promotes anti-drug behavior in youth.  He has been a member since 2003 when he was just 8 years old.  Roman became the Young Marine of the Year 2008.  Through this organization, he has participated in junior, advanced, and senior leadership school and have done various community service projects such as Toys for Tots, marched in Veterans Day parades, Highway clean-ups, handing out Christmas gifts to the elderly, and participated in a host of speaking engagements; more recently to his area Penn Square Rotary.

 

As a member of the Friendship Force of Lancaster County, Roman went with to Ghana, West Africa as a goodwill ambassador.  He spent two weeks there building goodwill and friendships with the natives.  He visited the slave forts, orphanages, the fishing villages, met with Kings and Queens, and did a home stay in three different regions.  While in the Cape Coast region, Roman had the opportunity to play basketball at midnight with the Ghanaian boys.  They were eager for him to teach them how the Americans play basketball.  Later during the trip, Roman went to the U.S. Embassy as an advocate to encourage the United States government to provide more visas to the Ghanaian citizens thereby increasing their chances to visit America.

 

Roman is a positive role model to youth in his area.  His personal goals are to attend a Division I college and eventually play in the NFL.
